A stunning 131 from Kieran Wood and 73 from Peter Spriggs helped Thatcham Town Cricket Club return to winning ways with a 58-run victory against Burnham 2nds on Saturday.
Thatcham batted first and although Josh O’Flynn (0) was an early casualty, Spriggs and Wood put together an incredible partnership to surge in front.
Jack Young added a solid not out 44, with Thatcham declaring on 272-4 after 49 overs after an impressive innings.
Burnham battled on though and put in a good response, with opener Gopi Basra getting past the half century mark and Obaid Sarwar contributing 46.
However their efforts weren’t quite enough as three wickets from O’Flynn and two each from Chris Bird, John Williams and Duncan Johnson saw them all out for 214.
The result moves Thatcham up to sixth in Division 2B of the Thames Valley Cricket League.
And while the quality wasn’t as high as Thatcham’s game, Newbury managed to get the same result in their match against Finchampstead 3rds.
Newbury set a lowly 94 all out target after their innings, with their batsmen unable to get going.
However Finchampstead fared even worse, and were all out for 68 in less than 20 overs with Charlie Anstey picking up an astonishing seven wickets.
It keeps Newbury fourth in the Division 3A standings, although they are now level on points with Purley-on-Thames in third.
Both teams are back in action this Saturday, as Thatcham travel to Henley 2nds while Newbury are away to Cove 2nds.
