A young Newbury footballer could be following in the footsteps of Theo Walcott and Charlie Austin after signing his first contract with Swindon Town.
Eight-year-old Stanley Herdman has been playing football since he was three, starting off with Cold Ash before joining AFC Newbury.
But he is now aiming to be the next big footballing name to come out of West Berkshire after Walcott and Austin by signing with League Two outfit Swindon.
His dad David said: “Stanley is delighted to sign, he wants to be a professional footballer when he’s older.
“He has enjoyed playing for Swindon for the last year or so as well as for Newbury, and has played against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Aston Villa and many others.”
The contract is for one year, and will mean he plays solely for Swindon during that time.
