Ever fancied the chance to get to know your neighbours while doing the weekly shop?
Sainsbury’s in Newbury is giving customers the chance to do just that on Saturday as it joins in with The Great Get Together.
It is the idea of the Jo Cox Foundation to get people to take a break from their busy lives and get to know their neighbours, in memory of the Batley and Spen MP who was murdered last year.
Newbury is one of 15 Sainsbury’s branches across the UK taking part in the initiative.
Newbury store manager Rob Barnes said: “We’re really proud to play our part in this nationwide event by bringing people together from the West Berkshire area and encouraging our customers to join the community spirit.
“Being part of the local community is extremely important to us and we look forward to bringing local people together as part of this event.”
Customers will be encouraged to pause and chat with other shoppers over drinks and nibbles being served from 10am to 4pm.
Iona Lawrence, director of the Jo Cox Foundation, said: “I’m delighted that Sainsbury’s is taking part in The Great Get Together and hosting some of the 110,00 events taking part across the UK.
“It will be a lot of fun and will hopefully play its part in reminding us all of the values that make this country such a great place to live.”
