UPDATE: The West Berkshire Green Party have confirmed this evening that they have found the battle bike. Original story below:
The ‘battle bike’ that has been used by the West Berkshire Green Party as part of their campaigning ahead of Thursday’s elections has been stolen.
Thieves broke into the garden of Newbury general election candidate Paul Field in The Martins, Thatcham, overnight on Sunday.
The bike, which had a towable banner attached to the back of it, had been parked in the garden and securely locked up, but this wasn’t enough to stop it from being stolen.
David Marsh, West Berkshire Green Party’s election agent, said: “Somebody must have used bolt cutters to get it because it had a very powerful lock.
“It’s one thing for placards to go missing – we’ve lost three on the A339 as you go into Newbury – but stealing a bike, especially with the massive banner on it, it’s really disappointing.
“It has to be somewhere in the area and hopefully it will turn up, but it saddens me when you’re trying to take part in the democratic process.”
Anyone with information to the bike’s whereabouts can contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
