Two drug dealers have been handed a combined jail term of almost eight years after they were caught in possession of £3,700 worth of drugs in Thatcham and Midgham.
Jamie Maslin, 28 of Bourne Road in Thatcham, and Christopher Grant, 25, of no fixed abode, were sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Thursday.
It comes after police officers received reports of drug dealing at a hotel in Thatcham at around 10.50pm on September 12 last year.
Maslin and Grant were subsequently arrested after being found in possession of MDMA, cocaine, ketamine and cannabis, estimated to have a street value of £2,500. Officers also seized £2,225 in cash.
And then at around 12.40am on October 17, 2015, Maslin was again arrested at a pub in Midgham after being found with MDMA, cocaine and ketamine, estimated to be worth £1,200. Another £400 in cash was also seized.
Both men were charged on June 20 this year.
Maslin pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to supply drugs, five counts of possession with intent to supply, and one count of possession of criminal property, and was jailed for four years and six months.
Grant was sentenced to three years and four months in prison after admitting to one count of conspiracy to supply drugs, one count of possession with intent to supply drugs, and one count of possession of criminal property.
Investigating officer PC Jamie Hanks, based at Newbury police station, said: “Maslin and Grant were clearly making a living from dealing both class A and class B drugs in the Newbury and Thatcham areas, motivated by the quick financial rewards.
“They were dealing drugs in public places with no regard to the impact on the community.
“This is a great result for the community and a reminder that police take a no nonsense approach to drug dealing, continuing to prosecute dealers and seize the proceeds of their criminal activities.”
