What do you get if you mix magic with impressions and throw in a bit of burlesque too?
Stu Turner from A Bit of Magic tells us what to expect ahead of the show coming to the Greenham Arts Centre on Saturday, April 29 at 8pm.
He said: “It’s much more of a variety show than just magic. We’ll have a mixture of acts, and the show will feature magic, comedy, sketches, impressions, and a touch of burlesque. It has a real cabaret feel to it, with all sorts to entertain the audience, so something for everyone.
“There is a lot of comedy in the show. Some of the routines are a bit cheeky, but nothing too rude or naughty. The burlesque routines are suitable for all ages, as there is no full nudity.”
And the audience can look forward to what Stu calls the ‘main team’ next week.
He added: “There are the main core acts that we try and get to every show, but every now and again there are clashes with other shows so we have to swap out for another. I know a lot of fabulous cabaret and variety acts, so it’s easy to find someone to come along. Luckily at Newbury we have the main team, so you’ll be in for a cracking show.”
Whether performing in front of 20 or 2,000 it promises to be a great show, “I’ve performed for an audience of 6 in a small comedy club, right up to 2,000+ at the London Palladium.
Hearing the roar of laughter from the entire audience in a big theatre is magical, but then I also enjoy the smaller venues where the audience are up real close, and you can see the reaction on their faces.”
And it’s this performing to a live audience that inspires Stu to do it and he has these words of encouragement for others: “You can’t beat performing to a real audience to improve your skills and stage presence.
Once you’ve practised and honed your tricks, jokes or routines, get out there and perform. Join a local amateur variety club or society; do shows for charities; try and get spots in shows at the numerous fringes and festivals round the country. Just get out there and perform.”
Adult tickets for the show are £13. You can book online at cornexchangenew.com.
