Terry Phelps took the honours at the men’s Captain’s Day competition at West Berks Golf Club, scoring 39 points off a three-quarters handicap.
He finished one shot ahead of Luke Prestoe in second place, while Gale McAuley beat Chris Ward into third on countback in the competition open to both men and women.
Jane Brackenbury took the ladies’ runners-up spot with 31 points, while Ian Armstrong won the visitors’ prize.
In the other competitions held this week, Carol and Mike Sparvell won the Sunshine Cup with a score of 47 points.
The cup is a better-ball stableford competition, with Ola Adams and Martin Neville coming second ahead of the pairing of Ann Davies and Jock Douglas.
Jason Kendal won the June medal, while David Gentleman dominated the midweek stableford and Carol Sparvell won the play-off of the ladies’ winter round robin.
There were mixed results for the teams, as the scratch side lost 4-3 away to Henley in the Reading and District Golf League.
The ladies’ team also lost 4-1 away at Donnington Grove in the second round of the Duncan Trophy.
There was success for the club side as they beat Burnham Beeches by 4½ to 1½ to reach round three of the Hillman Trophy, and the seniors won 3½ to 2½ at Marlborough.
