French hope Dicton is among the 12 confirmations for the £350,000 Group One Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury Racecourse this Saturday.
Hopes are high for the four-year-old colt after showing improvement over the last season, finishing third in the French 2,000 Guineas and the Prix du Jockey Club.
Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, racing manager for owner Robert Ng, said: “We have left Dicton in the Lockinge because we are looking for a bit of cut in the ground. The horse has come back from Hong Kong (where he finished seventh at Sha Tin on April 30) in great order.
“We wanted to leave him in at Newbury because he ran very well over the straight mile at Deauville last year and a reproduction of that would put him in the mix.”
Other notable names in the 12 confirmations are Galileo Gold and Ribchester, trained by Hugo Palmer and Richard Fahey respectively.
A full day of racing at Newbury on Saturday gets under way with the £100,000 Al Rayyan Stakes at 1.50pm, and comes to a close with the £40,000 Tornado Handicap at 5.10pm.
It follows the Starlight Charity Raceday, taking place at Newbury tomorrow.
