A survey asking for people’s views on the local football offering in Newbury has been set up by a campaign group trying to save the ground in Faraday Road.
Newbury Community Football Group (NCFG) is seeking to assess the level of demand for footballing facilities in the town.
It comes as Newbury FC’s Faraday Road ground faces being closed within the next few years as part of West Berkshire Council’s proposed redevelopment of the London Road Industrial Estate.
The club’s lease on the ground expires in 2018, but NCFG has been campaigning not just for the ground to remain but for it to be improved.
Lee McDougall, spokesman for NCFG, said: “This consultation is the first step of the NCFG development plan for football in our area.
“With between 300 and 400 youngsters coming up through the youth football club, we are determined to ensure there are quality facilities for them to use for the long-term, to develop their sports skills and also to promote health and wellbeing in our community.”
