Two Aldershot batsmen proved to be the problem for Thatcham Town Cricket Club as they lost to the Hampshire side by 109 runs on Saturday.
A 120 knock from Rory Collins and a not out 91 from Mike Lloyd proved to be costly for Thatcham, after the rest of Aldershot’s batters were dismissed relatively cheaply.
Aldershot would declare on 279-8, leaving Thatcham with plenty of work to do to get anything out of the match.
And while Josh O’Flynn (42), Jack Andrews (36) and Jack Young (42) were able to hit decent scores, it wasn’t enough as Thatcham ended up all out for 170.
The result sees Thatcham drop to seventh in Division 2B of the Thames Valley Cricket League on 139 points, with their next game away to Beaconsfield this Saturday.
Elsewhere, Newbury came within three runs of picking up just their second victory of the season as they lost to Purley-on-Thames.
Purley batted first and were all out for 172 in the 39th over.
Newbury then set about chasing that down and after a 66 from Charlie Anstey, were closing in on Purley’s total.
But having got to just three runs behind, Newbury lost their final wicket to fall to an agonising defeat.
It proved to be costly as Chiswick and Whitton narrowly beat Falkland 2nds to move off the bottom of the Division 3A table, with Newbury now taking their place.
Newbury host Cove 2nds in their next game this Saturday.
