Thatcham Town got their season off to a flying start with a 1-0 win at home to Abingdon United last night.
The goal came in the 34th minute from new signing Ekow Elliot, who struck a lovely effort from the edge of the box into the roof of the net.
It made sure Thatcham opened their Hellenic campaign with the maximum three points.
The Kingfishers are optimistic about their prospects this season, having brought in 11 new signings over the summer with the aim of once again challenging at the top of the table.
New names are Henry Owen, Curtis Angell, Harrison Bayley, Harry Grant, Ekow Elliot, Joe Blount, Lamin Sankoh, Dylan Knight, Anthony White, Jesse Bowers and Iggy Illott.
Speaking to the club website, manager Danny Robinson said: “I am delighted on how the summer has gone with regards to the new signings we have got through the door.
“It has been a very busy summer and the management just purely haven’t stopped.
“We have worked very hard on bringing in players that fit the way I want to play, while ensuring they are here for the right reasons.”
However some prominent players have also left the club in that time – Callum Willmoth and Gareth Thomas left for Hungerford Town, and James Tennant to Hartley Wintney.
Jamie Deller, Jordan Seward, Aaron Parfitt and Kylon Lewis have also moved on.
Robinson added: “I would like to thank them all for their time here and wish them all the best for the future, whatever that may be.”
Thatcham begin their FA Cup campaign with a visit from Petersfield Town in the extra preliminary round this Saturday.
Should they win, the Kingfishers will go on to face the winners of Sholing versus Alresford Town on August 19 away from home.
