Thatcham Vision is looking to make itself more formal and transparent in its work to help develop the town.
It is currently running as a voluntary group, but wants to become a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) to help it better apply for grant funding and undertake larger projects.
It could also be expanded to cover the surrounding villages as well as Thatcham itself.
The group also needs to raise several thousand pounds so it can carry out a relaunch, and is looking to become Thatcham Action.
A statement released by the group said: “It was clear that the town and surrounding area would benefit from our actions, and this has only strengthened as government has contracted.
“So if we want to continue to be part of a successful community, we need to change from a voluntary, unincorporated group to become a more formal, transparent and democratic organisation.”
Thatcham Vision was set up in 2005 to develop a parish plan for the town, and has worked to help implement a number of measures within Thatcham since then.
